Walks with Loki

Dog walking on Merthyr Mawr sand dunes

This month our most fun walk was at Merthyr Mawr sand dunes. Equipped with two very excited children and a sled we made the 30 minute journey from Llantrisant through the pretty village of Merthyr Mawr and parked in a car park in the woods right near the dunes (pay and display, see below.)

Once you get through the car park the sand dunes unfold before you and if you follow the path it’s not long before you see some dunes big enough to slide down. If you are brave enough you can make your way to the infamous ‘big dipper’ (not for the faint hearted!) and slide on an almost vertical slope down to the bottom. Loki had great fun chasing the children down the slopes and also enjoyed digging lots of holes to hide in — make sure you take some water as it’s very thirsty work running up and down!

We went on a very hot day, so we didn’t walk all the way to the beach, but you can follow the path to Ogmore beach and have a well-earned rest and a dip in the sea to cool down (dogs allowed all year too!)

This is a really pretty and fun walk for all ages and comes highly recommended — why not visit this weekend?

Until next month — happy walking!
